The Galloping Garbage Truck
In the realm of “Holy Cow! Who knew life could be so good?”…grandsons!
I spent more than 40 years working before I (blessedly) retired from a very satisfying career (mostly in public radio). That said, my decision to retire was a messy slide into home plate—I retired only after my husband suffered (and recovered from) a cardiac arrest and my older sister was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer (Jacqueline Ann Richardson, b. 7/29/53—d. 1/10/17…RIP). Those two significant, life-altering events were the nudges I needed to quit working.
By then, grandson #1 had been born; his little brother was born about 18 months later.
In the glowing charm of retirement living and two adorable grandsons (not to mention 2 more grand-nephews…1 grand-niece…the births of our exchange student’s daughter and another\exchange student’s son!), I began to write poems for and about these little ones.
The result is The Galloping Garbage Truck, which will be published in 2021 by Kelsay Books (DaffyDownDilly Press). It is an exciting and satisfying feeling to know that these poems will soon be available for a larger audience of small children. From How to Make a Grumpy Boy Smile to The Wiggle-Waggle Brothers to The Girl with the Bow in Her Hair and 21 more whimsical poems, I hope the joy I felt when writing translates into joyful reading.
