Little Free Library—It’s For Everyone!
Two Little Free Libraries are located a short walk from my home. These charming “houses” are filled with books that are ever changing…in the mode of Take a book…Leave a book.
Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, is the person who dreamed up the idea for the Little Free Library as a tribute to his mother, who was a teacher who loved to read. He built his first library—a replica of a one-room schoolhouse—in 2009 and placed it in his front yard, where it quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Emboldened by its success, Bol built several more libraries and gave them to people who “planted” them in their neighborhoods.
By 2020, there were more than 100,000 registered Little Free Libraries located in more than 100 countries around the world. This nonprofit organization inspires people to share their books and read more, and it also brings communities together around the joy of reading.

In my COVID-19 Pandemic mode of de-cluttering my house, I have taken many of my well-loved books to my local Little Free Libraries (I’ve brought home a few, too). It is such a good way to share one of the joys of my life.
In 2021—I will be placing copies of my own books in my Little Free Library…Widow Maker (a chronicle of my husband’s cardiac arrests and recovery) and The Galloping Garbage Truck (a collection of 24 poems for children). If you decide to buy copies of my books for yourself, I hope you also will consider buying an extra copy to place in your own neighborhood Little Free Library. If you do, please be sure to let me know because I will be holding a special give-away for everyone who helps me extend the reach of my poetry into the world.
